Academy Prep Center of Tampa
Academy Prep Center of Tampa is honored to be named the benefiting charity of the 2022 Avila Charity Tennis Tournament. Academy Prep is a private, not for profit middle school serving low income children in 5th-8th grade. Our mission is to inspire and empower children qualifying for need based scholarships to become future community leaders through a rigorous middle school program coupled with ongoing graduate support. All of our students attend Academy Prep on full scholarship.
Academy Prep is a unique school. An Academy Prep education is 10.5 hours a day, 6 days a week, and 11 months a year. We have small class sizes, with most academic classes separated by gender, and although most students enter our school below grade level, all graduate at or above grade level and enter some of the most prestigious local high schools and boarding schools in the country. The school provides a demanding academic curriculum and enrichment activities along with emotional support and social guidance. Our daily enrichment program offers over 30 enrichment classes to choose from, including cooking, robotics, sewing, intramural sports, advanced art, acting, choir, yoga, chess and gardening. Students benefit from an additional eight years of Graduate Support Services that support them continually through high school and college.
A school like Academy Prep is only possible with the support of generous donors and volunteers in the community, who know how important an equal opportunity to a great education is to combating generational poverty and helping students succeed. Accomplishments in our 19-year history include:
- 99% of Academy Prep Alumni have graduated from high school on time.
- 87% of Academy Prep Alumni have enrolled in colleges and universities with an additional 7% proudly serving in our military.
- 100% of Academy Prep’s class of 2019 were at or above grade level in reading and math, with many students at the 11th and 12th reading and math grade level.
